Couple of niggles, advise needed please...
Couple of niggles, advise needed please...
Hi guys..
Just took delivery of a 54 plate 3.0d Sport - on the whole I am very happy with it - but like any car you buy 2nd hand there are always a couple of minor issues you need to address, I wonder if anyone can help..
1: When the FM radio is on there is an annoying background buzz/whirring noise??
2: The wing mirrors are retractable, but the passenger one doesn't move, and the drivers side retracts and pops straight back out again
3: The pressure in the windscreen washer jets is very poor (headlight ones fine)
4: Rear wiper is ill fitting, and leaves a big gap (the ends touch the glass, but the middle doesnt)
Also, I am considering a remap, but I have heard there is some parts that cause issues with this engine and its advisable to remove them?
Thanks
Rich

1. Faulty suppressor or bad aerial cable.
2. Have a trawl on here as this is a known issue and there are DIY fixes.
3. Probably a blocked filter on the washer tank. These cars are very sensitive to which washer fluid is used as some can cause a jelly like gunk to grow in the tank.
4. If you are referring to 'swirl flaps', the E53 Diesel engine does not have them despite what some people will tell you. We've checked and no one has found any flaps or control gear fitted to the 3.0D.
EDIT: rear screen could be the cause of your radio issue. Fuse is in the right side boot cubby from memory.

Re: Couple of niggles, advise needed please...
Thats great, thank you for your advise.
Is there anything you can flush through the system to un-gunk the pipes etc?

I did clear them down, and ran again, they won't disappear - but sometimes says fault not present, then fault present. Engine is starting fine, no lumpy tick over, or anything... confused...

Re: Couple of niggles, advise needed please...
might be wrong but mine used to throw this code pretty often with no side effects at all in 2 years and 40k miles, just imagine your one of the 99% of owners that dont have a fault code reader, no dash lights, no side effects, no worries!

The VTG 54C6 .
I think that means the transfer case fluid should be replaced and the values thereafter reset . check with dealer or specialist as it`s not an expensive job .

Re: Couple of niggles, advise needed please...
Yeah I see what you are saying. It runs fine so I guess nothing really to worry about.
Not having a heated rear screen and virtually no windscreen washers is a pain though especially at this time of year.

Re: Couple of niggles, advise needed please...
Takes 15 minutes or less to sort the washers
Drain reservoir by siphoning if you know how to do that safely or else just lift out the pumps and let it drain . It may not drain until you remove the rubber seals which the pumps insert into , these have screen filters which are most likely blocked. The seals are easy to remove .
Clean the filters and flush the reservoir . The reservoir is easy to remove if you want . One or Two nuts secure it .

Yeah, ill get it done... Any ideas about the heated rear screen? Assuming the fuse is OK, what else could it be? Cheers
