burning oil smell on resting 3.0i sport

Post by willos » Mon Dec 02, 2013 9:10 pm

Just enjoying the car after the ball ache of a split intake hose at the ICV and the ICV sticking which threw up loads of faults.    Anyway after a new boot a clean of the ICV and putting back the old original MAF the car runs fine until today.    After a run and come to a halt you can smell an oil burn.    No great clouds or anything coming from the exhaust.    Ive looked and cannot see any point of a oil leak.  Any clues on this.

have you dipped the oil? the 3.0i engine is notorious for burning oil

It's doing it when the car has been stood for a few days.    Plenty of oil in but there is oil burning off the exhaust under the bonnet when run again.    Nothing when run every day.    Just thought someone would know of a typical leak on a 3.0i would do this

Check along the top of the exhaust manifold heat shields you may find the rocker cover is leaking and running down onto the heat shields

Not unheard of and a relatively easy job
