BMW X5 E53 3.0d gear selector removal help

Post by Beautiful » Tue Apr 29, 2014 9:44 am

Hi was wondering if anyone out there has replaced their gear selector lever unit in the consol. Recently i could not get the car into drive, but then found by moving the gear lever over to the left a little bit it then goes into drive. So checked out with my local garage how much to replace the selector unit, £530 !!!!! You can get second hand ones on ebay for £30, but i cant find anything on the net on how to replace the unit. If you can help i would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

There is a BMW workshop manual (on disc) you can buy for the E53 called TIS.

I'm told it covers pretty much every nut and bolt. I've just bought it but not yet installed

This is it here (I'd add that Im not linked to, or in any way, promoting, the seller)

For £3.50 you cant really go wrong
