Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to retrofit a fire extinguisher and mounting bracket under the front passenger seat of an X5 E70 2009.
Is it easy or best left to the professionals and can someone recommend anyone in North London ?
Many Thanks
Sanjiv

DIY Retofit Fire Extinguisher under front seat
Re: DIY Retofit Fire Extinguisher under front seat
If you are handy with a few hand tools then do a 'test fit' and once you are happy it will go there then remove the seat, carefully check below the carpet for hidden wiring and also have a good look under the car to ensure there are no fuel/brake etc lines hidden below the bodyshell.
Keep the fixing self-tapping sheet metal screws short, and if you can get those without points on them the first mechanic who goes under there and doesn't get spiked fingers will be grateful. You ought to out a dab of under seal there too.
One thing to also check is that wherever you put the extinguisher it must allow for the full range of motion that the seat has. I've seen guys swearing loudly when they've done the job and found the seat won't adjust properly!
When I was fitting them into Police vehicles we used to mount them well forward at the base of the A-pillar (passenger side) as they were out of the way of the seats and less likely to be kicked. Of course with cars being wide now you need to keep it in 'grab' range of the driver as well. That might mean using the transmission tunnel - again wherever you go check under carpets and behind trims for hidden wiring etc.
