Differential oil
It’s worse on the X6 (E71) as it has a special torque distribution rear diff with two different oils in three chambers that absolutely must not get mixed up. The outer chambers have electrically driven clutch packs that need their own special (aka expensive) oil. 500ml isn’t quite enough!

A success then.
Time for a
or two to get the fluid level up again.

Dash camera wiring in an E70.
I cheated with the A-pillar and ran the wire across in the join with the dash at the bottom and then pushed the wire in with a trim tool up the windscreen side of the A-pillar trim. The only thing (for anyone looking at this in the future) is don’t run the wire across the A-pillar trim at the top ...

It might have been ordered just as the financial crash of 2008 happened, got cancelled and reduced to minimum spec. Dealer probably still had to take it.

Fingers, Toes etc crossed.
I don’t remember that particular ‘gremlin’ ever coming up on here before. I doubt many of us would even have thought of that one!
These cars are very complex and annoyingly not every module has the ability to tell you there’s a fault on part of the system that’s keeping ...

The TIS doesn’t give the actual capacities but lists 500ml bottles (plural) as being needed, but not how many.
It also says the fill and drain plugs must be replaced, do not reuse.

Yet another recall campaign........
In our case BMW has to pay as the manufacturer has gone bust. In 2024 there were still about 1.7M UK vehicles still to be done. As it’s a ‘voluntary’ recall rather than a mandatory one (DVSA - how was that allowed?), manufacturers don’t have to chase non-respondents to letters. Most do, but it seems ...

Seems the French are taking things seriously. ‘Stop Drive’ instruction issued to all owners of Takata equipped cars. Another 2.5 million need new airbags or a check done. How you know whether your car has Takata I don’t know, but I guess their products were used across many manufacturers and models ...

We seem to be getting an increase again. Please keep reporting - as was done this morning - and I’ll get rid of both the spammer and :spam: as soon as I can. Spammers are automatically :chophead: from the forum. I don’t do parole for them :D

It sounds as if it was somehow still in a half service / half working mode, or even in ‘transport’ mode. Why I have no idea. If it’s cleared itself then it’s sorted, but still a concern. Unless an error code shows up the the log, I guess we’re stuck.

They make good kit. I’ve had a couple now. One thing to be careful of is using Sandisk or Samsung memory cards. For some reason they don’t seem to play nicely. I refuse to pay for Nextbase cards as they are double the normal price!

I think I did (from memory). Trying to get heatshrink shrunk in the close confines was a no go.

That’s what I have for an earlier generation of Nextbase. The wiring is behind the drivers side carpet panel for the X6, so I’m assuming as they are similar it will be in the same place? I took the trim piece off (single screw at the forward end, slid the trim forwards (I think) as it hooks into the ...

I traced the wires from the back of the socket and tapped in further away. On the E71 at least, the wires run along the drivers side of the tunnel.

Unusual. BMW Individual paint jobs are expensive (unsurprisingly). On the i4 these days it’s about £3k extra and 6 weeks longer for delivery.
Expensive wheel option fitted too. Those were about £3k extra when I ordered mine, nice but not that nice.
