Near Side Mirror (A mind of it's own)

Post by dobbor1 » Mon Feb 25, 2013 12:04 pm

Hi, my side mirror seems to be confused when I select reverse.  It can't decide sometime whether to angle down or not.  It's got to a point now where it moves up and down randomly like a mad man.  Are the motors easy to replace and are they costly?

Thanks

Is it a motor issue or switch issue.  I'm thinking switch as the motors still working. I assume you have tried flicking the mirror adjust switch back and forth to see if its as simple as that?

I had mine replaced under warranty because it was doing this.  It was very dirty inside they said and the switches were knackered.

The replacement mirror started doing it after a couple of years too but I found that cycling it a few times with the mirror switch made it behave for a little while.

It also has a barney when I push the memory button on the side of the drivers seat to try and bring it back up if it does finally drop down but then stays there when I flick out of reverse.

the motors become sticky. remove the mirror outer and do a cleanup. it will be all fine after that.

Just the back off or do I need to remove the actual mirror itself?

I didn't remove the mirror frame from the car. From memory (been a while now) the back cover, the surround and the reflector also come off, leabing the fame and the motors in a rubber glove sort of thing.

Easy enough to clean at this point and re-greese. That sorted it out and its been working since..

When removing the cover be careful not to break the clips that hold it in place.. Bit tricky as it was tight.
